Soft tissue augmentation can be used to restore volume, create balance, and minimize lines and scars. Almost any area of the face and body can be treated. Injections can be used as an adjunct to other procedures or surgery. 

Most importantly the experienced provider should be instrumental in choosing which product is appropriate for the patient and the area to be treated. 

Categories:

Hyaluronic acid (Versa, Restylane, Juvaderm, etc): Hyaluronic acid matches the same supportive hyaluronic acid substance of the skin. They are extremely versatile and can be placed almost anywhere. There are so many applications for these products but common areas are folds, cheeks, lines, lips, chin and scars. There are many different brands, concentrations and cross-linking. They are safe and there is a reversing enzyme to dissolve them. They are considered temporary and approximate length of correction varies from 6-12 months. 

Calcium Hydroxyappetite (Radiesse) : This agent can be used in many areas of the face and body. It is radio-opaque and can be visible on x-rays or CT scans. It has a slight ability to stimulate collagen production. 

PMMA (Bellafill): This agent has an FDA approved use and duration of 5 years. It can be used for scars and volume loss of the folds. Bellafill stimulates your own body to produce its own collagen.

Poly L Lactic Acid (Sculptra):  Duration is 2 years or longer. This agent stimulates your own collagen production. It is used for large areas of correction such as the cheek and hollowness of the temple and can also be used in the décolleté.
